Rachel Meghan Markle, was born on 4th August 1981 in Los Angeles and grew up in the United States. Her mother, Doria Ragland, is a former social worker and yoga instructor, and her father, Thomas Markle Sr. is a retired television director of photography and lighting director.

Meghan married Prince Harry at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, in May 2018 and became The Duchess of Sussex. The Duke and Duchess have one child, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, born on 6th May 2019.

ღ EDUCATION ღ

The Duchess attended the Hollywood Little Red Schoolhouse from the ages of 2-11 and began her secondary education at Immaculate Heart High School in 1992. She went on to double major in Theatre and International Relations at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois graduating in 2003 with a dual degree.

During her time at university, The Duchess completed an internship at the US Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she learned to speak Spanish. She also studied French for six years.

After university she worked as an actress, appearing in film and television. She most notably played the role of Rachel Zane on the series Suits for seven seasons, completing over 100 episodes between 2011-2018.

Alongside her successful career as an actress, The Duchess also wrote and edited a lifestyle website called The Tig.

ღ ROYAL ENGAGEMENTS ღ

While living in the UK, The Duchess spent time visiting local communities and organisations both publicly and privately. She also undertook a number of visits to communities across the UK – including Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

In January 2019, it was announced that The Duchess had become Patron of four organisations that reflect the causes and issues with which she had long been associated including the arts, access to education, support for women and animal welfare. Two of the patronages – the National Theatre and Association of Commonwealth Universities – were handed down from Her Majesty The Queen. The others were Smart Works and the Mayhew animal welfare charity.

As announced in January 2020, The Duke and Duchess have stepped back as senior members of The Royal Family. They are balancing their time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour their duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and their patronages. Frogmore Cottage in the UK remains their family home.

The Duchess’ official titles are The Duchess of Sussex, Countess of Dumbarton and Baroness Kilkeel.
